Sophisticated cameras inspect every apple, checking size, colour and any skin blemishes.
During storage, the Blue Whale fruits are kept in “Extreme ULO” rooms, a technology which extends the shelf life of apples beyond 12 months. ULO principle is to reduce the oxygen rate by blowing nitrogen into the cold-room to limit fruit respiration and formation of carbon dioxide that alters the flavor.
In addition, refrigeration systems are highly efficient to reduce fruits water loss. Blue Whale warehouses are built with environmentally friendly materials and according strict insolation standards to maximize energy savings.
The packing houses are equipped with new packaging lines to optimise packaging in trays, bags, trayless or hot dog packs, as well as "extra shiny" waxing, depending on customer requirements
